Specialisation Overview

The Graphic Design and Multimedia Specialisation (BA) offers contemporary university education in the field of visual communication, integrating graphic design with digital media and multimedia practices. The Specialisation is based on intensive studio work, the development of visual and conceptual thinking, as well as the integration of image, text, form, and media as means of artistic expression.

Aim of the Specialisation

 

The aim of the Specialisation is to educate students with developed artistic, conceptual, and visual competencies in the field of graphic design and multimedia, capable of conceiving, developing, and articulating visual communication projects in artistic, cultural, and educational contexts, as well as building a solid foundation for further academic and professional development.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the studies, students of the Graphic Design and Multimedia Specialisation (BA) are able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental and contemporary principles of visual communication and graphic design;
  2. Understand the role of image, text, form, and digital media in the construction of visual messages;
  3. Apply principles of graphic design, multimedia, and fashion in creative projects;
  4. Develop visual ideas and concepts through the process of design and creative innovation;
  5. Analyse and evaluate graphic design and multimedia projects through critical reflection;
  6. Produce independent visual communication projects with conceptual and visual coherence;
  7. Present creative work in a professional manner through a professional portfolio and public presentations.

Teaching Methodology

Teaching is based on studio work, thematic projects, individual and group mentorship, as well as structured academic critique. The learning process integrates creative practice with theoretical reflection, fostering the development of critical thinking, visual experimentation, and the intentional articulation of ideas in graphic and multimedia forms.

Assessment is carried out continuously and includes:

  • Evaluation of the creative process and progress in the studio;
  • Evaluation of graphic and multimedia projects;
  • Presentations and critical discussions;
  • Artistic portfolio and project documentation.

Assessment methods are aligned with the learning outcomes and the ECTS credits defined in the curriculum.

Structure of the Specialisation

The Graphic Design and Multimedia Specialisation combines a common academic core with the early orientation of students towards one of three tracks: Innovation Design, Communication Design, or Fashion Design.

Structure and Requirements

 

Day I – Visual task / composition

  • Execution of a visual task or composition based on a topic assigned by the committee;
  • Assessed: visual perception and organisation, composition and relationships between elements; ability to communicate visually through images.

 

Day II – Graphic design task

  • Execution of a task from the field of graphic design and visual communication; the task may include elements of communication design, innovation design, and fashion design, according to the assigned topic;
  • Assessed: creativity and idea, visual articulation of the idea, understanding of graphic and multimedia language.

 

Essay / Interview

  • Motivational essay / short interview;
  • Assessed: motivation for studies in graphic design and multimedia, creative orientation, and interest in visual communication as an artistic practice.
