DEPARTMENT OF DRAMATIC ARTS
The Department of Dramatic Arts (DDA) is a study program within the Faculty of Arts and represents one of the core programs of higher artistic education in Kosovo. The Department currently has approximately 250 active students, 34 full-time professors, 1 part-time professor from the University of Prishtina, 20 part-time assistant professors, and 1 visiting professor.
The Dramatic Arts Program offers seven Bachelor-level (BA) specializations. All specializations comprise 240 ECTS credits, equally distributed over four academic years. The language of instruction at the Bachelor level is Albanian.
The curricula of the Department of Dramatic Arts are developed in accordance with contemporary academic and pedagogical standards and are based on models of renowned film and theatre schools in the region and worldwide, while being adapted to the cultural context and the needs of the creative industries in Kosovo.
All specializations collaborate on semester-based and annual student theatre and film projects, in accordance with internal academic regulations.
Learning outcomes are aligned with the National Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), Level 6. The program places particular emphasis on practical training, which is implemented through theatre, film, and audiovisual projects, creative laboratories, and institutional and international cooperation.
Bachelor (BA) Specializations
Acting (BA)
The Acting specialization is oriented toward the professional preparation of actors for work in theatre, film, television, radio drama, and other forms of performative expression. During their studies, students acquire advanced acting techniques and develop skills in stage performance, role development, and artistic interpretation.
The program focuses on the professional formation of actors for work in theatre, film, and audiovisual media by developing advanced skills in stage interpretation, character building, and performance practice. Students are trained for professional collaboration within creative processes involving directors, playwrights, screenwriters, and artistic teams, as well as for responsible and independent engagement in theatrical and film productions under academic supervision.
Theatre Directing (BA)
The Theatre Directing specialization is designed for the education of professional theatre directors. The program provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge for their creative, artistic, and professional development in the field of theatre directing.
During their studies, students learn to independently utilize their creative and intellectual potential for the conceptualization, organization, and realization of theatrical productions for diverse audiences. Additionally, they acquire foundational knowledge for engagement and assistance in other areas of the performing arts, including film and television.
Film and Television Directing (BA)
The Film and Television Directing specialization at the Faculty of Arts in Prishtina is the only program of this profile in Kosovo. The program offers a comprehensive approach to the filmmaking process, covering all stages from idea development and script development to final realization and presentation.
Studies are oriented toward the professional preparation of students for integration into the film and television industry. Students work closely with other specializations in the realization of film and multimedia projects, developing skills in teamwork, creative management, and professional responsibility.
Dramaturgy and Screenwriting for Film and TV (BA)
The Dramaturgy and Screenwriting for Film and TV specialization was established in the early 1990s and represents one of the most consolidated programs in this field in Kosovo. Its aim is to prepare students for the creation of dramatic works and screenplays for film and television.
Students are introduced to classical and contemporary dramaturgy, drama theory, modern theatre, and contemporary forms of film and television screenwriting. The program develops critical thinking, creative independence, and professional competencies for engagement in theatre, film, television, and other cultural fields.
Scenic Design and Costume Design (BA)
This specialization enables students to acquire professional knowledge and skills to work as scenic and costume designers in theatre, film, and television. The program focuses on the development of creative, visual, and technical competencies in scenic and costume design.
Students are trained in interdisciplinary collaboration with directors, actors, playwrights, screenwriters, and production teams, as well as for critical evaluation and independent artistic interpretation of theatrical and film works.
Production (BA)
The Production specialization aims to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge in theatrical and film production. Students are introduced to the organization of creative processes, management of artistic projects, and fundamental techniques of work on film sets and in theatrical production.
The program prepares students for professional engagement as producers, cultural managers, or independent specialists in cultural and creative institutions, both nationally and internationally.
Cinematography and Editing (BA)
Cinematography and Editing specialization are the only program of this profile in Kosovo. The program is oriented toward the professional preparation of students in the fields of cinematography and editing, in accordance with contemporary standards of the audiovisual industry.
The studies cover all stages of the filmmaking process and enable students to develop technical and artistic competencies for direct integration into the film and television industry.
